President Obama Came To Afghanistan In Disgrace

In a surprise three-hour photo-op, President Obama was sneaked into Afghanistan on Friday, December 3, 2010 to a heavily secured U.S. military base.

Posing for pictures with U.S. troops, he also gave them a pep talk, trying to convince them there is purpose in what they are fighting and dying for. He was long on empty abstractions, short on specifics. And he did not meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, whose corrupt regime the blood of U.S. servicemen keeps in power.

After nine years of war, thousands of lives lost and thousands more severely injured and hundreds of billions of dollars spent, that a U.S. President had to be sneaked in is a disgrace. And Mr. Obama didn't dare leave the U.S. secured military base. In Iraq these things would be true as well, after 71/2 years of war.

In Afghanistan and Iraq, there is no love for America's President. Instead there is vast anger as so many of their family members have been killed in these U.S. wars of occupation, their nations destroyed.

Hopefully, it will finally occur to President Obama and Congress what a tragic mistake these wars are and they will end them. And as deeply in debt as our nation already is, they will take a small portion of the money they are using to wage these wars and help to rebuild those countries so their people can have a far better future than the present we have thus far brutally bestowed on them.
