Will The Oprah Winfrey Network Succeed?

The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), owned by Oprah and Discovery Communications has taken $312 million of Discovery's money and continues to lose money. A few days ago, OWN canceled "The Rosie Show" hosted by Rosie O' Donnell because of its weak ratings and in addition OWN will be laying off 30 people to save money.

Will OWN succeed? Considering it was just launched in January of last year, like any business venture, it needs time to develop and also like any business venture, it has made mistakes along the way. That's often how we grow as people, from our mistakes.

I think Oprah will develop her network into a success. She is a sharp programmer and she understands her audience niches well. If you are in the U.S. and haven't yet tuned in, it is No. 279 on Direct TV, otherwise please consult your local listings. As I would cheer for your success if you launched a venture that could make the world a better place, I am cheering for her.
