What Do These Two Men Have In Common?

Yesterday I spoke with "Pete" and a little later with "Mike." Pete is a retired coach and school teacher, who is in great shape and about to hike the Grand Canyon for the 24th time. He has a wife, two daughters and grandchildren.

Mike is a homeless man, an ex-house painter, surviving on the street, and drugs have taken their toll. He wants a better life but is not driven to pursue it. He has no surviving family and is alone in the world.

What do these two men have in common?

Each man is on his own spiritual path, as are you and I, each of us growing from our life's many experiences. On this path, we all need unconditional love, not judgement, and a helping hand to lift us when we fall, words of encouragement when we are in doubt, and the wonders of a smile when loneliness lives within our hearts.
