In the U.S, politicians spend on average, half their time raising money to.pay for their campaigns, which is time not spent doing the people's business. Always needing money, politicians serve those who fund their campaigns.
This gives power to the few at the expense of the many. To correct this problem will require public funding of campaigns, something which will happen when the public demands it.
