Protecting Your Health: The Truth About Movie Theater Popcorn

Last weekend, my wife Anne and I took our grandchildren, ages 6 1/2 and 4 to see "Dr. Seuss: The Lorax," a movie we all enjoyed. As part of that enjoyable experience, we smelled the delicious scent of popcorn popping and bought popcorn for everyone. But in eating it, I noticed how salty it was and I began to wonder about its nutrition and whether it should be served to small children or to anyone else for that matter.

For nowhere did I see the ingredients posted so people can make an informed decision. However, from The New York Times is an eye opening article, "Popcorn's Dark Secret," http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/19/popcorn/, one well worth your read if you eat movie theater popcorn or buy it for your loved ones.

My intent is not to alarm you but to offer you an informative service apparently the government doesn't require movie theater chains to offer. In any case, please enjoy whatever movie you select, now wiser about your munchy options.

Thank you to Anne's and my son Kyle for sharing this New York Times article with us and now with you.
