No-one controls his or her destiny, despite the claims of some people to the contrary. The only thing any of us have is self-control, as we can choose how we will respond to a given set of circumstances.
If ever you doubt this, think of all the people who abruptly die in traffic accidents or who suddenly contract a deadly or paralyzing disease or who have some other life altering experience, and the impact this has not only on them but on their families and friends. None of them was able to foretell this happening nor control their destiny any better than any-one else does.
Life is a precious gift and the wise among us make effective and joyful use of each day. And they offer others a helping hand as well or simply a smile and kind words of encouragement. For we are all on this brief, loving and sometimes perilous journey together, each of us uplifted by or vulnerable to what life may present in the very next moment.
