"This Is Where My Friend Lives"

About three time a week through his wife, I invite an 80 year old man with Alzheimer's to walk with me.

He is a warm, outgoing man who at this stage of his Alzheimer's is able to appreciate what he sees in that instant, even though seconds later, he won't recall it.

Recently his wife said that while they were together and went past my home, he said to her, "this is where my friend lives." It touched her heart and mine that he recognized my home and connected it to his friendship with me.

Sometimes life's greatest gifts are the little events that bring us perspective and joy and serve as their own rewards.
