Courage

It is so simple to conform with what others do. It seems to avoid risk and no-one is critical of one's conformity, for it meets common expectations. But here is why courage matters:

If ever one is to make a difference in this world, by definition "difference" requires doing something others are not, which means risk and criticism, and potential failure.

This requires courage, but it is through courage that one can grow and thrive, and learn so many of life's valuable lessons, including the lesson of courage as a necessity.
