What About The Impact On The Lives Of The Wives And Children Of The Secret Service Men?

Regarding this Secret Service scandal involving an ever growing number of men, as my friend Mary Ellen pointed out, what about the impact on the lives of their wives and children?

For those who have wives and children, the wives are stunned and hurt to learn their husbands have been cheating on them, and they must now worry about the potential for venereal disease or AIDS that they may have been exposed to. And for those men who were fired, what happens to their paycheck and health care benefits and other perquisites?

That paycheck and benefits are something wives and children depend upon. Those paychecks make house and car payments and put food on the table. They also pay for educational expenses including college funds and other expenses, such as clothing, shoes and braces.

Think how all this destroys their children's sense of security. And to make it worse, children hear their parents arguing, see their parents depressed and may even witness their father forced to pack up and move out, possibly as part of what will become a divorce proceeding.

As for getting a new job, for the men who have been fired, how will that effect their resumes? This is a bad economy and high paying jobs, like the ones they had, are scarce. But this is what can happen when a man thinks with his ego and his penis.

But the purpose of this piece is to expand our thinking and to appeal to the compassion within all of us. For each of us makes foolish mistakes and what happened with these Secret Service agents is not funny or worthy of ridicule, but sad. They and their families need our understanding and the sense that we will reach out to do what we can to help them, for they are our brethren.
